Germany is river-cycling country. The Danube, Rhine, Moselle and Elbe all carry flat, well-signed paths past vineyards, castles and beer gardens, while Lake Constance and the Bavarian lakes add alpine views without alpine gradients. From the Baltic coast to the Black Forest, it’s one of the easiest countries in Europe to explore by bike — and one of the most rewarding.
Getting the most out of your German cycling adventure depends so much on the attention to detail that’s gone into crafting the perfect tours. Lucky for you, we’ve already done hard miles, and here’s what we recommend.

Cycling in Germany is superbly organised. The national D-route network and the great river paths — the Danube Cycle Path, the Elbe Radweg, the Moselle and the Rhine — are well-signed, well-surfaced and woven into local transport, so trains and ferries slot neatly into any itinerary.
The variety is the real draw. Follow the Moselle’s vineyard bends, circle Lake Constance with the Alps on the horizon, ride the Romantic Road through walled Bavarian towns, or take on real climbs in the Black Forest and the Bavarian Alps — with a gentle valley alternative never far away.
But so much of what makes Germany a top cycling destination happens when you’re not on two wheels. Time your trip right, and you could be looking forward to Oktoberfest in Munich, the Cologne Carnival, one of many regional wine festivals, and much more.
And of course, Germany’s culinary delights are a huge draw. When it’s time to wind down and indulge, treat yourself to irresistible sausages, from bratwurst to currywurst, paired perfectly with a refreshing local beer (or several!).
Explore Germany’s diverse beauty, from Moselle Valley’s picturesque vineyards to the fairytale landscapes of Bavaria. Pedal through the serene shores of Lake Constance and follow the historic Danube River on an unforgettable cycling adventure. Join the Pedal Ventures team as we showcase the unmistakable charm of Germany’s top cycling regions.

Cycling in Baden-Württemberg is the wine-and-wellness south-west: Black Forest valleys, the castle-lined Neckar, spa towns like Baden-Baden and university cities from Heidelberg to Freiburg.

Germany's Baltic coast is a world of wide sandy beaches, chalk cliffs, ancient Hanseatic cities, and forested islands connected by ferries and bridges. Flat cycling, clean sea air, and a relaxed pace of life make this one of northern Europe's most rewarding cycling destinations.

Bavaria is Germany's storybook south on two wheels: beer gardens, Alpine foothills and King Ludwig's castles — with our Munich to Merano ride climbing out of the city towards the mountains.

Berlin by bike is history at handlebar height: the Wall Trail mile by mile, Tiergarten and Tempelhof's runway-turned-park, and lake rides out to Wannsee and Potsdam's palaces.

Cyclists from around the world flock to the Danube year-round to explore a region defined by contrasts: grand cities and sleepy villages, towering cliffs and gentle meadows, ancient fortresses and lively beer gardens. Whether you're drawn by the hustle and bustle, the unique sights and landscapes or the prospect of a quick dip after a long day cycling, Danube never fails to deliver.

Dresden cycling starts on the Elbe Cycle Path itself: city riding past the Frauenkirche, Saxon vineyards towards Meissen and the sandstone towers of Saxon Switzerland a day-ride away.

The Lake Constance cycle path circles three countries in one ride: the classic Bodensee loop through Germany, Austria and Switzerland — orchards, ferry hops, Lindau's island harbour and the Alps across the water.

Cycle the Moselle Valley's slow, vine-lined bends between Koblenz and Trier: half-timbered wine villages, Riesling tastings and a castle above almost every meander.

Riding the Rhine Valley means the UNESCO Middle Rhine gorge between Bingen and Koblenz: castle after castle above the vineyards, the Lorelei rock and little ferries stitching the banks together.

“Germany has over 20,000 castles — some are medieval fortresses, while others are fairy-tale palaces like Neuschwanstein, which inspired Disney’s Sleeping Beauty Castle”

Almost everywhere, but the classics are the river routes and the south. Follow the Danube, Moselle or Rhine Valley, circle Lake Constance, ride Bavaria’s lakes and the Romantic Road, or head south-west to Baden-Württemberg for the Black Forest and the Neckar’s castles. For flat coastal riding, the Baltic Coast is the quiet star of the north
