Tyrol is Austria at its most alpine: peaks, high meadows and valley floors stitched together by some of the best traffic-free cycle paths in the Alps. Base yourself in Innsbruck and follow the Inn Valley path beneath the mountains, ride the Zillertal’s dedicated riverside route, or point your wheels south over the Brenner towards Italy — the valleys do the hard work, the views do the rest.
Our Tyrol bike tours use the region as the great gateway across the Alps: start beneath Innsbruck’s peaks, follow the Inn downstream past Kufstein’s fortress, or ride south through the Brenner and Adige valleys towards Lake Garda, Verona and Venice — mountain scenery on valley gradients all the way.

Tyrol’s trick is that you can ride through the high Alps without climbing them. The Inn Valley cycle path — the Innradweg — runs the length of the region on the flat valley floor, the Zillertal has its own dedicated riverside route, and trains and cable cars are always on hand when you fancy a summit without the sweat.
Innsbruck makes a spectacular base: a two-time Winter Olympic host city whose golden-roofed old town sits directly beneath the Nordkette ridge. Kufstein’s fortress guards the lower valley, the Achensee adds a fjord-like lake to the itinerary, and villages of flower-hung balconies and onion-domed churches deliver the postcard Tyrol between them.
It’s the alpine heart of our Austria cycling holidays collection — and the start line for our most popular transalpine routes, which cross the Brenner into Italy’s South Tyrol on their way to Lake Garda and Venice.
Tyrol has a temperate alpine climate: valley temperatures of 18–25°C in summer, crisp shoulder seasons, and a riding window from late April to October — with June to September the safest bet for anything higher.
The terrain splits neatly in two. The valley paths along the Inn and Ziller are flat, well-surfaced and largely traffic-free — ideal for relaxed touring — while the mountain roads above offer as much climbing as anyone could want. Our tours stay mainly on the valley network, so the Alps remain the backdrop rather than the obstacle on our Tyrol cycling holidays.

LukeCo-founderTyrol is a fabulous destination to experience a range of outdoor activities, from alpine hiking to paragliding over the scenic valleys. Explore the historic town of Innsbruck, visit the Ambras Castle, or take a cable car ride to the top of the mountains for panoramic views. The unparalleled alpine beauty of Tyrol along with its cultural delights guarantees a memorable holiday filled with outdoor adventures.
No — that’s the pleasant surprise. The main valleys carry flat, traffic-free cycle paths, with the Innradweg running the full length of the region, so you can ride among 3,000-metre peaks without climbing them. E-bikes are available for anyone tempted by the side valleys.
Tyrol is the Austrian state around Innsbruck; South Tyrol is the neighbouring Italian province around Bolzano and Merano — Austrian until 1919 and still largely German-speaking. Several of our routes link the two, crossing the Brenner from one Tyrol to the other on the way south to Lake Garda.
May, June and September are the sweet spots: settled weather, green valleys and quieter paths. July and August are the warmest and busiest months, while late April and October still work well for the valley routes.
