South Tyrol, Italy • Adige River, Italy
An easy-going adventure through alpine valleys, perfect for kids and grown-ups alike.
Snow-dusted peaks, sparkling lakes, and peaceful riverside paths—welcome to South Tyrol’s most family-friendly cycling adventure. Starting at Lake Resia and gently descending through alpine meadows, fruit orchards, and storybook villages, this route follows the scenic Adige Cycle Path all the way to Bolzano.
Along the way, you’ll pedal past medieval castles, visit hands-on museums, and cool off in outdoor pools and splash parks. Well-maintained, mostly downhill paths and short daily distances make this an ideal introduction to cycle touring with kids.
From lakeside picnics to gelato stops and even a knight’s castle, every day offers something fun for the whole family.
Tour Highlights
Easy
Perfect for those seeking a relaxing and enjoyable cycling experience. These routes feature flat or gently undulating terrain with shorter daily distances, allowing you to take in the sights at a leisurely pace. Ideal for beginners, families, or anyone looking to combine cycling with plenty of relaxation time.
Settle in and soak up the fresh mountain air and lake views. The iconic submerged church tower of Lake Resia sets the scene for the week ahead.
An easy first ride takes you past two sparkling lakes: Resia and Haidersee. Stop for a paddle or picnic before cruising gently downhill past snowy peaks and mountain pastures. In Glurns - South Tyrol’s smallest town - take a break before finishing in Sluderno.
Don’t miss Churburg Castle, home to the world’s largest private armoury!
Today’s ride follows the river and crosses meadows and orchards. Stop in Laas, famous for its gleaming white marble and its juicy apricots. End the day in Silandro, where the family-friendly outdoor pool awaits.
A gentle ride through fruit orchards and colourful villages brings you to Latsch and the AquaForum - a water park complete with tube slides and kids' splash zone. Finish in Naturno, home to another fun pool and even a mini adventure train station.
Cruise along the flat valley trail to Merano, passing scenic picnic spots like the Rabland habitat pond. In Merano, stroll through palm-lined promenades or visit the famous botanical gardens.
Fancy more riding? Head further into the Passiria Valley, then loop back (+13 miles)
The final stretch rolls gently through apple orchards and past castle ruins. Stop in Lana for a snack or short hike before rolling into Bolzano, where Ötzi the Iceman awaits at the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology. You’ve earned your last gelato!
Stay longer to explore Bolzano’s museums, cable cars, or surrounding mountains - or continue your adventure further south.
