Guided cycling holiday
Istria, Croatia
Set sail and cycle across the stunning Istrian Peninsula, often called the “green heart of Europe.” This seven-night guided holiday combines the best of coastal cruising and inland cycling, from the island of Krk to the vibrant harbours of Pula, Poreč, Rovinj and Novigrad. Each morning, you cycle through olive groves, vineyards, medieval hill‑top villages and leafy parks, guided by local experts. Afternoons bring relaxed sailing along the Adriatic, with swim stops in crystal‑clear bays and time to explore UNESCO towns. Meals aboard showcase regional favourites, from fresh seafood to truffles, local olive oil and top Croatian wine. Stay aboard your floating hotel each night, unpacking only once and enjoying relaxed evenings either ashore or under the stars. Whether you choose a hybrid or e‑bike, the pace suits beginners and experienced cyclists alike. This cruise-driven tour ensures you experience both the coastline and countryside of beautiful Istria.
Great for active riders ready for rolling hills and longer days in the saddle—offering both challenge and beautiful scenery.
Arrive individually at Omišalj on the island of Krk, famed locally as a pirate’s nest. Check-in on board your comfortable vessel begins at around 2 pm. You can drive and leave your car in secure parking arranged by us, or travel from Zagreb via transfer. Once on board, take some time to get settled into your cabin, explore the decks or enjoy refreshments as you meet your guides and fellow travellers. Later in the afternoon, we cruise over to Cres. Weather permitting, we stop in a secluded bay so you can take a dip in the Adriatic. By evening, we arrive at Cres town, with its Venetian-style lanes and historic churches. Enjoy an evening stroll along its quiet streets or enjoy a sunset drink by the harbour. Dinner is served on board as the boat remains docked for the night.
After breakfast on board, the boat sets sail for Pula, a historic city at the southern tip of the Istrian Peninsula. On arrival, we set off by bike for a scenic loop tour. The route passes through Galizana and continues through the sun-drenched vineyards and olive groves around Vodnjan. The roads are quiet and mostly flat, making this a relaxing and enjoyable introduction to cycling in Istria. You'll reach Fažana, a small coastal village with colourful houses, fishing boats, and café-lined promenades — perfect for a short stop before heading back to Pula. In the afternoon, there's the option of a guided walking tour of Pula’s Roman treasures, including the amphitheatre, Temple of Augustus, and ancient gates. Those preferring a slower pace can explore independently or unwind at a seaside café. Dinner is either on board or ashore. The ship remains docked overnight in Pula’s central harbour.
We begin the day with a peaceful cruise to Vrsar, a charming town once frequented by the infamous Casanova. From here, we begin a scenic ride along the dramatic Limski Canal, a fjord-like inlet surrounded by lush green slopes. The route leads us inland to Kloštar, a peaceful village in rural Istria. Along the way, expect a mix of paved and gravel roads, with ample views of olive groves and farmhouses dotting the countryside. The final stretch brings us to Poreč, a lively coastal town known for its long promenade and blend of Roman, Venetian, and modern influences. A highlight is the UNESCO-listed Euphrasian Basilica, with its remarkable mosaics. There's time for a swim, shopping, or a walk along the marina before dinner. In the evening, relax aboard or explore the town’s vibrant nightlife. The ship remains moored in Poreč overnight.
Today's route takes us deep into the Istrian interior via the old Parenzana railway line, now a well-maintained cycle path. We ride through tunnels, over stone bridges, and past sweeping views of vineyards and rolling hills. A highlight is Grožnjan, an artists’ village filled with galleries, music, and old stone houses. It’s a perfect spot for a coffee break or light lunch, with stunning panoramic views. From there, we continue through the scenic countryside, passing through Buje, where Istrian wines are produced. The route finishes in Novigrad, a small, charming seaside town with a laid-back atmosphere and a beautiful historic centre. You’ll have time to explore the promenade, visit the bell tower, or simply enjoy the local cuisine. Dinner is flexible, with options to eat aboard or try one of the many local restaurants. Overnight in Novigrad.
This morning the ship sails to Rovinj while you enjoy a relaxed breakfast. Considered one of the prettiest towns on the Adriatic, Rovinj’s pastel-coloured buildings and cobbled alleys offer plenty to explore. Today’s ride is shorter and gentler, giving you a chance to slow down. We cycle through a nearby nature park, following quiet forest trails and paths along scenic bays with turquoise waters. There are several opportunities to stop for a swim or a relaxed break in nature. After returning to the ship, the afternoon is free to explore Rovinj. You may want to visit the Church of St. Euphemia, climb the bell tower for panoramic views, or shop for local crafts. In the evening, join a guided city walk to uncover Rovinj’s unique blend of Venetian, Croatian, and maritime culture. The ship remains docked in Rovinj overnight.
We begin with a scenic ride from Rovinj along the coast to Fažana. The terrain is mostly flat, with sections through pine forests and along quiet country lanes. Fažana is known for its seaside promenade and fishing traditions, and it’s a good place to stop for coffee or a light snack. From here, we continue towards Pula, passing olive groves and small villages before returning to the boat. In the afternoon, we enjoy a longer sailing stretch to Rabac, a relaxed coastal town on the eastern side of the peninsula. The white pebble beaches and translucent blue waters here are among Istria’s best. Once docked, you’ll have time for a swim or a walk along the seafront. In the evening, enjoy cocktails in a local bar or relax with the group on board. The ship stays overnight in Rabac.
Our final ride begins after an early crossing to the island of Krk, the largest island in Croatia. Starting from Njivice, we cycle through a varied landscape of forests, coastal roads, vineyards, and quiet villages. A highlight is the bay of Soline, where mineral-rich mud is said to have therapeutic properties — you can even take a dip and cover yourself in the mud for a unique end-of-tour experience. Along the way, you’ll pass traditional stone houses and scenic viewpoints before finishing the ride in Omišalj. This historic hilltop town overlooks the Adriatic and offers a fitting end to your journey. Once back on board, enjoy a celebratory final dinner with your fellow travellers, guides, and crew. It’s a chance to toast new friendships and relive the week’s highlights. Overnight on the boat in Omišalj.
After a final breakfast aboard, it’s time to say goodbye. Disembarkation takes place by 9am. Transfers to Rijeka, Zagreb, or other onward destinations can be arranged if needed. Whether you're heading home or continuing your Croatian adventure, you’ll leave with incredible memories of Istria’s coastline, countryside, and culture.
Flights are not included with this holiday, but we recommend flying to Zagreb Airport (ZAG) and returning from Zagreb Airport (ZAG).
Welcome aboard the wooden motor yacht Linda. The spacious saloon is where you can enjoy a healthy breakfast, relax with a drink or tuck into a tasty three-course dinner.
