Ten Lakes and the Sound of Music

Your tour begins in Salzburg – famous for its baroque old town and musical heritage – or in the peaceful Trumer lake region nearby. You'll receive your welcome briefing and have your bikes fitted, with time for a relaxing evening stroll or lakeside dinner.

Cycle north along the Salzach River to Oberndorf, the birthplace of Silent Night. Visit the nearby museum in Arnsdorf and the beautiful abbey at Michaelbeuern before reaching the tranquil Trumer Lakes – Obertrum, Mattsee and Grabensee – or nearby Lake Wallersee. A shorter, direct route is also possible.

Ride through the peaceful Egelseen Nature Reserve and the small village of Schleedorf before arriving at the sparkling waters of Lake Irrsee. Your day ends in Mondsee, home to a famous basilica and picturesque lakeside promenade.

Cycle along the shore of Lake Mondsee and continue toward Attersee, Austria’s largest lake. In July and August, a boat trip is possible across the lake. Then continue through the Aurachtal Valley to Lake Traunsee, with its dramatic alpine setting. Highlights include Gmunden’s famous castle, Traunkirchen’s Fishermen’s Pulpit, and Altmünster’s cycling museum.

Begin the day with a scenic train ride to Obertraun on Lake Hallstatt, with the option to visit the Dachstein Ice Caves. Then cycle to Hallstatt, often called the most beautiful lakeside village in the world, and explore its ancient salt mine. Continue along the lake to Bad Goisern or a neighbouring village.

Visit Bad Ischl, once the imperial summer residence of the Habsburgs, then follow the river Ischler Ache to Lake Wolfgangsee. Pass through St. Wolfgang, home to the famous White Horse Inn and Schafberg cogwheel railway, as well as Strobl, Abersee, and St. Gilgen – Mozart’s family village.

Cycle via St. Gilgen to the blue waters of Lake Fuschl, then continue past Lake Hintersee and the Strubklamm Gorge into the Wiestal Valley. Ride along quiet forested paths toward Salzburg, stopping to visit Hellbrunn Palace, with its playful fountains and beautiful gardens. Your journey ends in Austria’s music capital.
